GODFREY, ZWIZANSKI AND SCHMATZ TAKE WINS FOR KODAK GALLERY/SIERRA NEVADA

(August 14, 2005) - The Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada Professional Cycling Team earned three race wins over the weekend from Hayden Godfrey, Scott Zwizanski, and Dan Schmatz, while Russell Hamby was 7th in the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix.

Bicycling Magazine's Madison Cup sponsored by Rodale

Godfrey kicked off the weekend in Friday night's Madison Cup at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania. Paired for the evening with Navigators Insurance's Marty Nothstein, Godfrey won this event for the first time after taking second and third in his two previous attempts.

Godfrey and Nothstein won three of four races on the program to take a comfortable win ahead of Colavita-Sutter Home's Argentinean duo, Sebastian Alexandre and Gustavo Artacho.

Tour de Medford

Halfway through New Jersey's Tour de Medford, Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada's Scott Zwizanski rode away from a strong regional field of criterium specialists to earn a solo win ahead of Vassili Davidenko (Navigators Insurance) and Jeff Hopkins (Jittery Joe's-Kalahari).

ñToday gave me a boost of confidence and I'm planning on a good ride next weekend in Downer's Grove,î Zwizanski said after the race.

Tour of Kansas City

After two punctures in a torrential downpour on the first day of the 43rd annual Tour of Kansas City (Missouri), Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada's Dan Schmatz took out his frustrations with a solo victory after jumping away from breakaway companions Brice Jones (Jelly Belly-PoolGel) and local standout Brian Jensen with four laps remaining in today's downtown criterium.

Chevron Manhattan Beach Grand Prix

Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada had two riders at the weekend's only National Racing Calendar event, the Chevron Manhattan Beach Grand Prix in Southern California on Sunday. Russell Hamby and Jackson Stewart sat tight for the duration of the race, which saw no threatening breakaways and only a handful of primes, one of which Stewart won.

Stewart led out Hamby in the always-dangerous field sprint for the final turn, and Hamby ended up 7th, a solid result for his first race since the Tour de Toona. Stewart finished 21st behind race winner Greg Henderson (Health Net p.b. Maxxis).

ñIt was crazy but fun,î Hamby said, ñand I was glad not to fall down. I'm feeling good and looking forward to next weekend.î

Other races

Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada also notched two third place results on Saturday. In the Patterson Pass road race in California, Tim Larkin didn't quite have the legs to overcome the entire Webcor Builders.

Part of a dozen-rider breakaway in the Grandview Heights criterium in Pennsylvania, Scott Zwizanski was outsprinted for second by local rider Ward Solar after the Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada pro did the bulk of the work trying to catch solo race winner Kyle Wamsley (Snow Valley p.b. Seal-On).

The next race on the Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada Professional Cycling Team's schedule is the USPRO Criterium Championships in Downer's Grove, Illinois. The team will field a full squad of ten riders in that race, which will be sponsored by Kodak Gallery.
